Installation & Technical Notes (EJ25 to EJ20 Swap)

To ensure a "plug-and-play" installation and satisfy your vehicle's ECU, you must perform the following component transfers from your original 2.5L engine:

  • Intake Manifold & Sensors: Transfer your original USDM intake manifold, fuel injectors, and wiring harness. This ensures all electrical plugs and vacuum lines match your vehicle exactly.

  • Crank & Cam Gears: You must swap your original USDM Crankshaft Sprocket and Left-Hand (Driver Side) Camshaft Sprocket. The JDM trigger points are often different; using your original gears ensures perfect ignition timing and prevents "Check Engine" lights.

  • Flex plate/Flywheel: Transfer your original flex plate (Automatic) or flywheel (Manual) to ensure the starter and transmission mate correctly.

  • Essential Maintenance: We strongly recommend replacing the following parts during the swap:

    • Timing Belt & Water Pump: Highly recommended while the engine is out.

    • Spark Plugs: NGK G-Power (BKR6EGP).

    • Oil Cooler/Filter Housing: Inspect for leaks and use a fresh Subaru OEM Blue filter.

    • Rear Main Seal: A low-cost part that is best replaced before the engine is mated to the transmission.
